About faviconflow
faviconflow is a free favicon and app icon generator that runs entirely in your browser.
Give it an image, a couple of letters, an emoji, or a symbol, and it produces the complete set
of files a modern site needs — the favicon.ico fallback, tab PNGs, an Apple touch
icon, Android and maskable icons, an SVG favicon, and the web manifest.
Why it works this way
Most icon generators upload your artwork to a server, process it there, and send a zip back. That works, but it means handing an unreleased logo to a stranger's machine. There is no technical reason for it: browsers have been able to draw, resample, and encode images for years. So faviconflow has no backend at all. Your files never leave the tab.
Designed around the hardest case
An icon that looks good at 512 pixels can be unreadable in a browser tab. Most of the tool is built to show you that early rather than after you ship:
- A mock browser tab rendering your icon at true 16-pixel scale, light and dark.
- A magnifier showing the 16×16 grid one pixel at a time.
- A contrast reading taken from the actual 16-pixel raster, not from the two colours you picked — because antialiasing has already thinned your strokes by then.
- An Android crop test, showing what a launcher keeps and what it cuts.
How it is built
Vanilla JavaScript and the HTML5 Canvas API, in a single self-contained file. The
.ico encoder is written by hand, since canvas cannot produce that format, and it
verifies its own output by parsing the bytes back before the download starts. Text is traced
into vector outlines so the SVG carries no font dependency. Emoji artwork comes from Twemoji and
symbols from Lucide, both credited in the download.
